Pets and heat
Summer has arrived and with it, high temperatures in many places in Spain. This increase in temperatures does not only affect us humans, but our pets also suffer from it and that is why today at Dibaq we want to give you some advice so that your dogs and cats do not suffer the consequences of the heat.
First of all, both for their comfort and for your own, try to keep the home as cool as possible, either with air conditioners, fans or with some simple recommendations such as ventilating at night or first thing in the morning and keeping blinds. lowered and drawn curtains at times when the sun shines directly on the windows. In the market you can find a kind of cooling mats, where your pets can lie down and feel the coolness.
It is essential that our pet always has a bowl with fresh, clean water at its disposal; in summer we can change it more often than usual, especially if we notice that the water gets hot. If you live in an area where temperatures are very high, you can add some ice cubes to the water.
To keep our pet hydrated, we can also alternate dry food and wet food, which will help them be more hydrated.
When going out for a walk, try to do it during the cooler hours (early morning or late at night) and make midday walks shorter than usual. It is not recommended that you exercise during the hottest hours. Likewise, cats that have access to the outside of the home should only go out during cooler hours.
You should keep in mind that hot asphalt at midday can damage your dog's paws, so you should walk in the shade and, if possible, in areas where there is grass. To know if you should walk, there is the 5-second rule: if you are not able to keep the back of your hand on the ground for more than 5 seconds, do not take your dog for a walk.
Of course, do not leave your pet inside the parked car: the temperature can rise dangerously, even if it is parked in the shade.
