Traveling with a pet
We already have the Easter holidays approaching and many of you will have a trip prepared. For those of you who do not give up traveling with your pet , today we give you a series of tips to make the trip a fabulous experience that you want to repeat frequently.
First of all, we must think about the means of transportation that we are going to use to travel with pets:
– If we travel by car , it is essential that we have adequate restraint systems for our pet. In the event of sudden braking, if it is not properly secured, it can cause irreparable damage to both the animal and the people occupying the vehicle.
– If we travel by plane , we must always check the restrictions of the airline we are traveling with regarding pets. Generally, the smallest animals can go in the cabin in an approved carrier , while larger animals must go in the hold .
– Trains in our country allow pets on AVE, Long Distance, Avant and Conventional Medium Distance services as long as they do not exceed 10 kg and in a carrier .
– Some bus companies allow pets, but generally these must go in the trunk , an experience that may not be too pleasant for our pet.
Regarding the destination , we must take into account a series of conditions :
– If you travel to a foreign country, you must inform yourself at the corresponding embassy about the requirements that your pet must meet to enter the country and if it must be quarantined before crossing the border. Sometimes, it is better to leave our animal with a trusted person before making it go through unnecessary procedures.
– Before making a reservation in a hotel , rural house , apartment or any other type of accommodation , make sure that your pet will be well received to avoid misunderstandings.
– When choosing the destination , choose one where your pet is comfortable , has places to walk and run in the case of dogs or that are protected from unexpected exits.
– Once you arrive at your destination, it is important that you spend some time letting your pet get to know this new environment .
– Locate a veterinary clinic in the surroundings; I hope you don't have to resort to it, but it is better to be informed.
Remember to put your pet's documentation in your suitcase. In the case of Spain, remember that the European Passport for pets is essential.
And of course, don't forget to bring their food , a couple of their favorite toys , their blanket and everything that you consider will make their stay a pleasure. Now you just have to enjoy these vacation days together.
