How to prevent breast cancer in our pets
Breast cancer is one of the 3 most common tumors in pets. It usually appears in females that have not been sterilized or the intervention was performed very late.
To prevent, we must sterilize especially before the first heat, since less than 0.05% of sterilized females have developed it afterwards. If it is done after the second heat, this percentage can rise to 25%.
SYMPTOMS
The most frequent symptoms are:
- Appearance of lumps in the breasts, especially in the lower ones.
- Inflammation
- Secretion
– Skin ulceration
– Loss of appetite
- Fatigue
Most affected pets have no symptoms other than the appearance of lumps, but in some severe cases it can affect the lymph nodes or even the lungs.
TREATMENT
If we see a lump we must go to the vet quickly to rule out that it is a tumor. The chances of cure are much greater at the beginning of its appearance.
The most common treatment is surgery. Depending on the case, they will be removed individually or a mammary chain in more serious cases.
For all this, the fight against breast cancer belongs to everyone. Humans and pets. It is a very dangerous tumor but with early diagnosis there are many possibilities of cure.
