Loud noises? Learn to calm your dog
In the middle of the summer season, it is not strange that at our local festivals there are loud noises (from fireworks, orchestras, processions and others) that can scare our dog. Let's remember that dogs have a much more heightened sense of hearing than humans and these noises tend to upset them quite a bit. Even if the sound source is far from our position, dogs are often perfectly capable of hearing it.
Today at Dibaq Petcare we give you a series of tips and recommendations so that you can calm your dog when faced with loud noises. We want to emphasize first of all that, if it is a problem that you cannot solve on your own as it is a serious phobia, you should go to a veterinarian or ethologist who will guide you in a more professional way.
First of all, it is essential that we remain calm; If our dog sees us scared, anxious or startled by the noise, he will do the same.
Your dog may decide to hide in a place he considers safe, such as under the bed or in a corner. In this case, let him stay in his “refuge” and act normally, without feeding that fear by going to comfort him. However, it is a good idea to accompany him to the room where he has taken refuge. Once he has calmed down, you can reward him with a treat so that he associates the calm attitude with a reward.
Wait a long time before going outside after the scary episode, it will be your own dog who will tell you with his attitude when it is the right time to go out; Don't force him ahead of time.
If you are on the street, try to move away from the source of noise, but in a calm and collected manner. If you run away, the dog will interpret that you are also afraid.
Do not leave your dog alone at home if you anticipate that there will be a loud noise near your home. We know that this is sometimes inevitable, but try to keep it to a minimum.
