The best beaches to enjoy with your dog this summer

Categories : Pet tips

If you are one of those who love going to the beach with your dog, we have good news for you: little by little, the number of beaches in Spain that allow the presence of pets in summer is growing. We know that a walk along the wide sandy beaches of the coast and a swim in the sea are not the same without the company of your playful friend. Every year our country is closer to reaching a hundred beaches considered 'pet friendly', where you can enjoy freely with your dog (always respecting some rules of coexistence). The Valencian Community is the region that has the most canine sandbanks along its coast, followed by Catalonia and Andalusia.

Take note because we propose a list of some of the best beaches for dogs to visit this summer of 2019.

The best 'pet friendly' beaches in the north

Bayas Beach, Castrillón, (Asturias)

This beautiful beach is one of the best rated in Asturias to go with your dog. It is a wild beach, surrounded by nature and green areas and perfect for disconnecting from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Punta Corveira Beach, Barreiros – Lugo, (Galicia)

Going to Galicia with your dog is synonymous with enjoying its wild coast. This dog beach has a bit of a complicated access, it is a little hidden treasure, but its great beauty will make it worth the effort. It is made up of sand and large rocks and you can enjoy the beach with your furry friend, especially when the tide is low.

Arcisero Beach, Castro Urdiales (Cantabria)

It is located half an hour walk from the historic center of Castro Urdiales, along the seafront. It is a natural sandy area where your dog can play among the rock formations and pebbles of this beautiful Cantabrian beach. But keep an eye on it, as the waves are usually moderate or high. This beach, along with those of Muelle Oriñón and Cala Cargadero Mioño, make up a total of three 'pet friendly' beaches belonging to the Castro Urdiales City Council.

The outstanding dog beaches of the Mediterranean coast

La Rubina Beach, Girona (Catalonia)

Without a doubt, it is an icon among dog-friendly beaches as it was the first in all of Spain to become 'pet friendly'. Its sand is fine, its waters crystal clear and it is part of the Aiguamolls del Empordá Natural Park. You and your canine companion will love it.

Pinedo Beach, Valencia

Located next to the port of the Valencian capital, it is one of the most visited dog beaches in the area in summer. If you come here with your dog, we remind you that this is a sandy area that only allows pets during the summer season, from June 15 to August 30, when it has all its services. The rest of the year, dogs are prohibited from entering.

Agua Amarga Beach, Alicante (Valencian Community)

It is located between the city of Alicante and the Urbanova urbanization. It is easy to access by car and has a large parking area. In it you can enjoy a beach bar in the summer season where you can drink something cool. You can go to this beach with your dog all year round, but only during the bathing season will you find its services available.

Sierra de las Moreras Beach, Mazarrón (Murcia)

It is one of the most accessible in the Murcia region and one of the most preferred by users. You will love it for its spaciousness, its golden sand floor made up of pebbles and its beauty, despite being in a semi-urban environment. It is perfect for spending a fun day of sun and beach with your dog.

The best sandy beaches in the south to go with your dog

It is one of the beaches best rated by users with dogs who visit the area. Here, you and your dog companion will enjoy it equally as it has comfortable fine sand and a large play area and dog park. Perfect for your vacation!

Castillo Beach, in Fuengirola (Málaga)

This is another of the most popular sandy areas in the province of Malaga and one of the best rated next to Torre del Mar beach. You will love its fine sand and, although the size of the beach is not very large, it will be ideal for spending time the day with your dog.

El Espigón Beach, Huelva

This long beach of fine sand has an area of about 2,500 square meters reserved for you to walk, play and bathe freely with your dog. It reaches the breakwater and you can access it at any time of the day.

The most popular beaches for dogs on the islands

Es Carnatge Beach, Palma de Mallorca (Balearic Islands)

It is a rocky area with small coves, located in a protected natural area between Coll d'en Rabassa and C'an Pastilla. Here you can walk freely with your dog without restrictions in the areas designated for this. Bathing is also allowed.

Guacimeta Beach, San Bartolomé – Lanzarote (Canary Islands)

This beautiful sandy area, located within the town of Playa Honda, is ideal for enjoying a warm Canarian day with your dog during any time of the year. It is one of the most popular on the islands and there you and your furry companion can have fun together in the dog area of more than 160 linear meters with no time limit.

Wherever you go, respect the rules of coexistence.

Don't forget that each beach area will have its own rules for accessing and being there, so we recommend that you always check the schedules and regulations of the sandy areas you are going to visit this summer with your dog. And, of course, remember that to continue enjoying all of these wonderful natural areas it is essential to follow some basic rules of coexistence:

  • Keep an eye on your furry friend and make sure he doesn't bother other people or dogs.

  • Always carry the leash with you in case it is necessary to use it.

  • Always use bags to keep the sand clean.

  • Always have your dog's documentation on hand as a precaution.

And you, have you already chosen your next beach destination in the company of your furry friend? Now all that remains is to enjoy the summer experiences that await you together along the coast of our country.
