Pets and heat

The summer has come and along with it, the high temperatures in many places in Spain.This increase in temperatures does not affect us only humans, but our pets also suffer and that’s why today from Dibaq we want to give you some advice so that your dogs and cats don’t suffer the consequences of heat.

First, both for your comfort and for your own, try to keep the home as cool as possible, either with air conditioning, ventilator or with simple recommendations such as ventilating at night or at first hour of the morning and keeping down persianes and curtains thrown in the hours when the sun turns directly into the windows.In the market you can find a kind of refreshing carpets, where your pets can tomb and feel the freshness.

It is essential that our pet always has a pot with fresh and clean water, in summer we can change it more often than usual, especially if we notice that the water is heating.If you live in a area where the temperatures are very high, you can throw some cubes of ice into the water.

To keep our pet hydrated, we can also alternate dry food and wet food, which will help them to be more hydrated.

When you go out to the street to walk, try to do so in the freshest hours (first in the morning or evening) and make the walk at noon shorter than usual.It is not recommended that you exercise in the warmest hours.Also, cats who have access to the outside of the housing should leave only in the coolest hours.

You should keep in mind that reheated asphalt in the afternoon can damage your dog's pants, so you should walk in the shadow and, if possible, in areas where there is grass.To know if you have to walk, there is the rule of the 5 seconds: if you are unable to keep the reverse of your hand more than 5 seconds on the ground, don’t get your dog to walk.

Of course, don’t leave your pet inside the stationed car: the temperature can dangerously rise, it’s even parked in the shadow.
